It was in November of last year in Burma.
I was lucky enough to spend the whole day in one of the monasteries near the ancient Ananda temple in Bagan.
The boy depicted in the portrait was one of the young monks being educated there.
While I was sketching in my notebook, he came to me and sat next to me, holding his pet rooster in his hands. I tried not to disturb this idyllic moment as I took photos, which I later used to create this painting.
This portrait now exists in two versions, one of which is not yet finished. I will definitely return to it to complete this beautiful moment.
